Carpet fitters and floor layer apprentices will most likely work in people's homes and in commercial buildings alongside an experienced worker(s).
- Carpet fitters install floor coverings.
- Floor layers prepare or fit the floor base and sometimes install the coverings.
If you enjoy practical work this could be just the job you are looking for. Carpet fitting and floor laying can be physically demanding a good deal of strength and fitness as heavy lifting is an everyday part of the job. To be a carpet fitter or floor layer, you will need to have good maths skills and the ability to measure accurately in order to work out floor areas, quantities and costs. Apprentices will require the ability to work quickly and accurately, and need a polite and pleasant manner for dealing with customers and the general public.
Entry requirements Most carpet fitters start out by joining a company and training on the job. They may not need any set qualifications, but employers will expect them to have practical skills and be good with numbers in order to work out quantities and areas.
The candidate will be will be required to pass the CSkills CSCS Health & Safety Environment Test, training test and application will be provided to the successful candidate.
Driving Licence is preferred but not essential. Work undertaken by KML Flooring is Nationwide, the ideal candidate must be willing to work away from home.

Training Provider Description: Construction and Plant Assessments LTD is a family run organisation based in Denaby on the out skirts of Doncaster. We have delivered CITB accredited training and education to the following sectors for the past six years. Highways, Utilities, Construction, Plant, Waste Management and the Flooring industry. Our staff are fully qualified in the qualifications they teach, and have many years of industry experience. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality training, and the excellent information advice and guidance we provide to our clients. Our apprenticeship programmes are unique to what our competitors have to offer. Within the programmes, we are offering FREE additional training that is not part of the framework, but is required within the apprentices job role. For example: A Highways apprentice will complete a (NRSWA) New Roads and Street Works qualification and a CSCS card. A floor coverings apprentice will receive a CSCS, Asbestos awareness L2, Manual Handling and a First Aid qualification. At CP Assessments we fully understand the requirements of the industry, and can tailor make the apprenticeship package to suit the employer and learner requirements. Our courses are delivered in our purpose built training centre, eliminating the need to travel further afield, which can impose additional expense to the employers and learners. We also offer a range of commercial courses such as: NRSWA, CPCS plant training, NPORS plant training, CSCS H&S course, Gas Shea and Water Hygeine EUSR.
